
Cormac O'Connor, an Irishman who has come to New York in 1740 to avenge the deaths of his parents, is given the gift of immortality after helping an African shaman, on the condition that he never leave the island of Manhattan, and goes on to become involved in many of the historical events of the city, while pursing a blood enemy throughout the ages.
