Patrick Cusimano and his brother, Mike, become the pariahs of their town after their father kills a boy while driving drunk, seemingly attracting people with troubled pasts to themselves--like Caro, Mike's girlfriend, and Layla Elshere, a goth teenager whose friendship Patrick distrusts, as well as Layla's sister Verna. Toxic relationships lead them all to a crisis of friendship and trust.
