After being told about the deep and a war raging, Nyla agrees to follow the stranger Osiris to train her newly discovered gifts. She begins to feel more at home in the deep, even after finding her mother there, who abandoned her a decade ago. Nyla's training speeds up when the League discovers an approaching earthquake that will send malevolent energy into the city of Brooklyn.
