Fourteen-year-old Anneli, confused by her father's decision to leave their Mennonite community in Brazil, change their names, and try to locate her mother who disappeared when she was five, feels isolated in the big city of Toronto, and, as she tries to figure out the unspoken codes of high school, she searches for her mom and answers.
