Twelve-year-old Anya lives in the town of Pripyat, not far from the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, and in 1986 when her firefighter father is injured in the aftermath of the explosion, Anya and the rest of the residents of the town are forced to evacuate, uncertain if their lives will ever be the same.
