Jude is adopted by diehard hippies and raised in a small Vermont town and spends his youth smoking marijuana with his best friend Teddy, but after Teddy dies of an overdose, Jude is sent to live with his pot-dealing father in New York City, where Jude discovers the underground culture of straight edge and aspires to adopt the clean, militant lifestyle to honor Teddy's memory.
