The dark magic the dragons encountered in their first adventure has made Ana's sun dragon, Kepri, sick and Drake's earth dragon, Worm, teleports the himself, Kepri, and the four young dragon masters far away from the castle in search of a cure--but the threat of the dark magic still remains.

The Dragon Masters have two tasks: track down the newly hatched Lightning Dragon, and find his destined Dragon Master, a boy named Carlos, and convince him to trust them--but somebody else has dark plans for this particular powerful and wild dragon.

The dark wizard Maldred has trapped dragon master Eko as well as wizards who have opposed him, all of them frozen in time and space inside a wall in his hideout; so Drake and Worm set out to seek the help of the Time Dragon--but when an imp named Beezel interferes Drake ends up back in his own past, and he must find a way to get back to the present.

Not all of the wizards who were freed from Maldred's time-trap were good wizards; one of them, Astrid, is planning on working a spell that will bring to life the bones that lie scattered in the Fortress of the Stone Dragon, bones that belonged to creatures much bigger than dragons--and when his friends are turned to stone it is up to Drake to find a way to save them, including his own dragon, Worm.

Drake's friends Mina and Caspar, their dragons, and Worm were trapped in stone by the evil wizard Astrid who has stolen their dragons' powers, but Drake himself was saved from a similar fate by Astrid's sister Hulda; now because of his strong connection with Worm, Drake is able to help his dragon to break free, but to free the others they need the assistance of three other dragons--a lava dragon, a sea dragon, and a wind dragon--and they have to do it before Astrid can steal the powers of even more dragons.

One step closer to stopping the Shadow Dragon from blanketing the world with its sky-shadow, Drake and the rest of the Dragon Masters must learn how to play the Star Flute in order to summon the Star Dragon.

Drake and Bo are sent to Gothica to retrieve a powerful dream orb from the castle of the evil wizard Zoltan--but first they must enlist the help of a young dragon master and his ghost dragon, Phantom.
