Sita (A.K.A . Squishy) has moved in with her father and his new family, which includes a pair of twin girls (Jessie and Vee) while her mother is away on a security assignment in Geneva, and she is finding her "bonus sisters" difficult to get along with even though they are only five months older--but when Vee finds out that Squishy is feeding a runaway boy who is hiding in the apartment house garage the two girls discover that a shared secret can be the starting point of a firm friendship.

When the puppy they are dog-sitting falls down a hole in the park, Squishy and her "bonus" sisters, the twins Vee and Jesse, discover a tunnel that leads down to the Yarra River in Melbourne, and a secret: the Zoom Mining company is dumping something (toxic waste?) under the public park--and the three girls resolve to expose the company.

Now that Squishy has been living with her father in Melbourne for some time she has grown close to her "bonus" sisters, the twins, Vee and Jesse, but she still is not sure about their mom, her father's new wife; however Squishy has a new passion (astronauts and space travel) and a new mystery to solve--who is the "spacewoman" across the street, why is she building a rocket on the roof of her apartment building, and how are they going to get through all the locked doors that are guarding this secret to find out?.
