Shinji Ikari, a student at First Municipal Junior High in New Yokyo-3, finds himself having unusual feelings for transfer student Rei Ayanami, much to the dismay of his childhood friend and self-appointed protector Asuka, and it is difficult to put personal feelings aside when they learn they are destined to be pilots of enormous artificial beings called Evangelion.
