Deyna, a young otter kidnapped from his home by the Sawney Rath clan who believe him to be their Taggerung, a warrior hero of ancient legend, strives to find his way back to Redwall in spite of those who are only too eager to destroy him and claim his title.

A young otter, kidnapped in his infancy and raised as a warrior-thief by a band of vermin, leaves the tribe and goes off to seek adventures of his own.
